Naima Joris is een Belgische zangeres en multi-instrumentalist die op latere leeftijd doorbrak met haar indringende, sobere stijl waarin rouw, verstilling en troost centraal staan. Haar warme, breekbare stem en minimale, vaak akoestische arrangementen maken haar werk herkenbaar en ontroerend. Ze veroverde de aandacht van een breed publiek met haar cover van Sodade tijdens de eerste lockdown.
Naima begon pas op haar 27ste te zingen en gitaar te spelen en werkte kortstondig als backing vocalist bij onder andere Isbells en Raymond van het Groenewoud. In 2016 werd ze geïntroduceerd als gastzangeres in de band van haar vader, jazzmuzikant Chris Joris, wat het begin betekende van haar eigen muzikale traject.
Na een eerste, persoonlijke EP in 2021 en het eerbetoon Tribute to Daniel Johnston, bracht ze in 2022 het album While the Moon uit samen met muzikanten Niels Van Heertum, Lara Rosseel, Vitja Pauwels en Tijl Piryns.
Momenteel is Naima op tournee met haar nieuwe album Enjoy the Silence (2025), een sobere, ingetogen plaat vol persoonlijke covers van onder anderen Nick Drake, Billie Holiday en Tom Waits, in samenwerking met gitarist Vitja Pauwels. Daarnaast treedt ze op met het Brussels Jazz Orchestra in het project Saudade, waarin ze samen melancholische nummers vertolken van onder meer Amália Rodrigues, Stromae en Abbey Lincoln — subtiel gearrangeerd voor bigband en stem.

Her warm, fragile voice and minimal, often acoustic arrangements make her work both distinctive and deeply moving. Naima only began singing and playing guitar at the age of 27, and briefly worked as a backing vocalist for acts such as Isbells and Raymond van het Groenewoud. In 2016, she was introduced as a guest vocalist in the band of her father, jazz musician Chris Joris — a turning point that marked the start of her own musical journey.
Following a deeply personal debut EP in 2021 and the tribute Tribute to Daniel Johnston, she released the album While the Moon in 2022, together with musicians Niels Van Heertum, Lara Rosseel, Vitja Pauwels, and Tijl Piryns.
Naima is currently touring with her new album Enjoy the Silence (2025), a restrained and intimate record full of personal covers of songs by Nick Drake, Billie Holiday, Tom Waits, among others, created in collaboration with guitarist Vitja Pauwels. She is also performing with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra in the project Saudade, in which they reinterpret melancholic songs by artists such as Amália Rodrigues, Stromae, and Abbey Lincoln — subtly arranged for big band and voice.
